Roots of Bixby Ballers Lacrosse

Bixby Ballers Lacrosse was born in 2018 by Schuyler Horn. After moving to Monterey from Boston, Coach Horn sought to pass on the game he loved to players in Monterey County and, during the summer of 2018, BBL started with a single high school team that represented the best of boys lacrosse players throughout Monterey County. Players from Pacific Grove, Carmel, Stevenson, Palma, Hollister and Salinas united to compete against the best teams on the west coast in two tournaments. Since then, our programs have grown to include players as young as 3 and as old as 51, representing skill levels from new to elite and both girls and boys lacrosse. Players from that first team in the summer of 2018 have returned to coach our teams and camps, and pass on their experience to the next generation.

During the summer of 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Bixby Ballers Lacrosse was resilient and creative, and thus thrived as we found opportunities to grow and serve our players. We expanded our girls lacrosse program, birthed our positional player development program, Ballers Academy. During the winter of 2021, our high school training camp kicked off on the fields at Carmel Middle School, and that spring we started Mighty Mites. The following June we formalized pick-up games with Friday Night Lights and Super Sunday Scrimmages, and rolled right into our select team summer season. In July of 2021, we led our first ever Salinas Lacrosse Camp, as we intentionally provide more opportunities that serve our Salinas Ballers.

We’ve grown exponentially in two years, and currently, Bixby Ballers Lacrosse offers year round girls and boys programs for players to have fun, train, compete, and get better. We serve 104 players from Big Sur, Soledad, Carmel, Monterey, PG, Seaside, Marina, Salinas, Santa Cruz, Los Gatos, Oakland, San Francisco, and Denver, to name a handful. Our programs serve our local communities; we are teammates on the field as Ballers, rivals in high school games, and friends off of the field. Raised together in the greatest place on earth, we represent the best of lacrosse on the Central Coast united as one big Baller family.
